John T. Taylor


     John Thomas Taylor died Wednesday night, Sept. 13th, at the home of his son, Raymond, at Vermillion, Kans., at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 7 days.  He was born at the pioneer home of his parents northeast of Pawnee City.

     He was married to Iva Shaffer in 1888 and to this union eight children were born.  His wife and a daughter, Mary, preceded him in death.

     His surviving children are Walter J. of Topeka, Kan., Raymond of Vermillion, William, Frank, and Doyle of Pawnee City, Mrs. Florence Barnes of Vermillion, Mrs. Merle Sherlock of Wichita, Kan.  He also is survived by 25 grandchilden, three brothers and one sister.

     From the old home place Mr. Taylor went to Vermillion about 41 years ago.  His wife died there in 1911, and he returned to Pawnee City about 12 years ago.  For some time past he had been living at Vermillion.

     With the exception of Mrs. Sherlock, all his children were at his bedside when he passed away.

     Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Irish Creek church near Lillis, Kan., and interment was by the side of his wife in St. Joseph's cemetery.
